When at home:

If you are unable to contact anyone from Smile Oralcare, your registered dental practice, call Denplan’s Emergency Helpline on: 0800 844 999.

If you are in the UK but more than 40 miles from your registered Denplan practice, Smile Oralcare, Peterborough:

You can visit any other dentist for advice or temporary emergency treatment up to your policy limits. If you need help locating a dentist, phone the Denplan Emergency Helpline on: 0800 844 999 who will help to find an appointment. If you arrange your appointment, keep all receipts and send in the claim form to Denplan for reimbursement, up to policy limits. When abroad:

You can see any dentist in an emergency with a Denplan contract and are covered for necessary temporary emergency treatment up to your policy limits. Denplan does not have registered dentists overseas, they recommend that you ask your hotel concierge, tour operator representative or any family, friends or colleagues for a recommended dentist in the area. Ensure you request and keep receipts for any temporary, emergency treatment whilst abroad, to claim back when you return. In certain circumstances, you may need to go to the Accident & Emergency department at your nearest hospital for severe dental symptoms. These include significant swelling, trouble breathing or swallowing, or trauma with bleeding. You can call NHS 111 for advice and an A & E referral.

Pain: Use over-the-counter pain relievers, rinse with warm salt water, and apply a cold compress to the cheek.

Bleeding: Apply pressure with clean gauze.

Knocked-out permanent adult tooth: If an adult tooth is knocked out, pick up the tooth by the crown (the white, visible part), rinse it gently in water if dirty, and try to put it back into the socket. If you can't reinsert it, place the tooth in milk, saline solution, or saliva, and seek emergency dental care immediately, ideally within 30 minutes, to give it the best chance of being saved. Do not try to reinsert a baby tooth. Seek medical dental advice immediately.
